Comissions
Ooo... The collector is here. Welcome to the most interactive part of my website - The Commissions.
Have you been staring at a blank wall in your house for months now? Maybe you've seen one of my pieces and it has finally given you the desire to have an original of your own... maybe it's inspired you for what could be on your wall, buuttt it doesn't have the right color scheme... or maybe not the right subject. You've been dying to have a painting of a warrior women breaking through the forest or maybe a cute baby lion cub sitting on rock overlooking the pride lands with his father whose saying "Simba, everything the light touches -" ...Hey wait, is that from the Lion King? ... Anyways, if you are ready for a commission, you are in the right place.
IDEAS
When thinking of this painting, before you submit a request, check and see if you like my style, if the "whimsical, brave, colorful" expressions, surrounding a detailed subject, is what you want. If you're looking for a basic pup painting or an old-fashion regal painting, like the masters, I might not be the artist you're looking for. If you haven't already, peer around on the "Originals" page to get an idea of what I create.
Okay your back and you are SET! You love a few different paintings and your ideas are spinning. You are ready to set up a meet with me... but wait, how much does this cost? Good question. Glad you asked.
COST
For canvas oil and mixed media pieces, I charge $2.50 per square inch. This means the price of your painting will be equal to the height x width x $2.50. For example a 24 x 18 canvas would be $1080. The smallest size canvas I will do for commission is 18 x 18, or 324 sq inches.
For acrylic paper sketches, I only do a select few sizes at the moment:
8 x 10 - $240
9 x 11 - $300
9 x 12 - $325
For oil paper sketches, same sizes, but higher value:
8 x 10 - $320
9 x 11 - $400
9 x 12 - $430
CANVAS PAINTING vs. PAPER SKETCH
A canvas painting will be similar to the work you viewed on the "Originals" Page. It will be a gallery style canvas, with a 1.5 inch thick edge. It can have a 1 or more subjects, lots of expressive color to compliment the subject(s), will have room for landscapes or expressive backgrounds, and will be BIG.
The sketches will be fit more for picture frames. They will be on mixed media paper, all one medium (oil or acrylic), and will only have room for 1 subject. These sketches will be limited to a simple background (no vast landscapes). Here are some examples of sketches:
Both are HannahMcIntyreArt custom artwork which means your piece may end up being apart of my print collection. If that happens, the value of your work will likely increase as time goes on making your collected piece's resale value increase as well.
ACRYLIC vs. OIL vs. MIXED MEDIA
Acrylic is the paint you've probably handled before. It's quick drying and can be completed MUCH faster than oil. Many times I use acrylic as a base layer to my paintings because of the quick drying ability. One con of acrylic is the flat finish. Now, your piece will still have LOADS of color, but the shine of the piece will likely be a little more dull if placed next to an oil piece.
Oil is, like it sounds, an oil based paint. This means it does not dry quickly... technically, it never dries. It cures. This is why museums tell you not to touch the painting. The oil from your hands, if touched overtime, can change, smudge, or damage the painting. Now, with that said, oil is the highest valued medium in art for many reasons. One being the depth and vibrancy that the oils allow the colors to be. When you see an oil piece next to a acrylic piece, the oil will draw you in more because it has a richness to it.
Lastly mixed media. Now, I tend to use all mediums I own in a mixed media piece. I use inks, acrylics, molding paste, paint pens, maybe modge podge for that first layer. and then oil and oil pastels for the top. If you want hidden collages, 3D texture, and/or passionate brush work, mixed media is the pick for you.
FIGURE OUT SIZE
If you can't figure out what size you want your piece, measure the space you will be putting it in and find a height and width you would be comfortable with. You can even put painters tape down to visualize the size.
